Working With BT Climate Change
At BT, we are using our technology to help tackle one of the world's biggest challenges: climate change. Our ambition, as a net positive company, is to help customers reduce their carbon footprints by at least three times the end-to-end carbon impact of our business. At the same time, we are working to reduce our own emissions, including those of our supply chain. In September 2017, we launched a new science based target to reduce the carbon emissions intensity of our direct operations by 87% by 2030 against a 2016/17 baseline. We also set a target to reduce the carbon emissions associated with our supply chain by 29% over that same timeframe. As a supplier to BT, you have an important part to play in helping us reach this goal.
Climate Change Procurement Principles - Influencing our suppliers
We have incorporated energy consumption and environmental factors into our procurement processes.
To do this we have three Procurement Principles in BT's Procurement Governance Framework
- We will harness the capability, diversity and innovation of our supply base to add value to our business and encourage suppliers to offer solutions which have a reduced environmental impact.
- That the energy consumption and environmental impact of a product or service (from manufacture, through usage, to disposal) is a mandatory criterion in all tender adjudication.
- That the energy consumption and environmental impact of any replacement product or service (from manufacture, through usage, to disposal) is less than its predecessor.
We will ensure that our suppliers meet appropriate targets on energy consumption and environmental impact.
BT has introduced a Climate Change Procurement Standard to drive engagement in this area. The standard sets out expectations and requirements from suppliers on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
You can view the standard here:

Our Climate Change questionnaire is about supplier engagement, we want to know what you are doing, what plans you have and what we can expect from you in the future. Supplier action on Climate Change will feed into our tender adjudication criteria.
